Phoenix Block Wall Fence has built and repaired block walls in the Valley for more than 25 years, and raising walls is one of the jobs we do most. Instead of tearing out a sound wall, we add new courses of block on top, tie them into the wall below and finish the top with a new cap. You get a taller wall that looks like it was built that way, without paying for a full new wall. We raise walls in Phoenix, Glendale, Sun City, Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert and Scottsdale, and every job starts with a free on-site look at your wall.
Privacy: a new two-story home went up next door, or neighbors can see into your yard and pool. Pets and kids: your dog has learned to jump the wall, or you want a safer backyard for children. Security: a low wall along an alley, a busy street or an open lot is easy to climb. Noise and dust: a taller block wall helps cut street noise and dust blowing into the yard.

Not every wall can safely carry more height. Before we quote, we check the footing (the concrete under the wall has to be wide and deep enough for a taller wall), the steel in the wall (many older walls have little or no rebar, and added height usually needs steel tied in from the wall below), cracks and leaning (small cracks can be repaired first, but a wall that leans or has large cracks is better taken down and rebuilt), city and HOA rules on height and permits, and who owns the wall (a shared wall on the property line needs your neighbor's agreement). If your wall is not a good candidate, we tell you and explain the options, including block wall repair or building a new wall.
1. Free estimate: we look at the wall, the footing and the height you want, and check city and HOA rules.
2. Prep the top: we remove the old cap and clean the top of the wall so the new block bonds to it.
3. Tie in the steel: where the wall needs it, we set rebar into the cells of the existing wall to connect old and new.
4. Lay new block: new courses go on, with grout in the reinforced cells.
5. New cap and finish: we set a new cap and match the finish: bare block, paint or stucco.
6. Clean-up: we clean up the site and walk the finished wall with you.

We Estimate
We'll give you a thorough & honest assessment, along with a detailed estimate for your project so you can make an informed decision.

We Get To Work
Once you sign off the estimate, we'll get you on our schedule as soon as possible. All you need to do is sit back, relax, and let us take care of the rest.
We match the new block to your wall as closely as we can. Older walls weather over time, so new block can look a shade different at first. Paint or stucco over the whole wall gives one even finish.
Some homeowners add wood slats or metal panels on top of a block wall. Adding block keeps the wall one material, so there is nothing to rot, warp or repaint every few years, and it holds up to Phoenix sun and monsoon wind the way the rest of your wall does.

When your wall and footing are in good shape, raising it usually costs less than building a new wall, because you keep the wall you have. If the wall leans, has large cracks or sits on a weak footing, taking it down and building a new, taller wall is often the better value. We explain both options so you can choose.
Most home walls take a few days, depending on how long the wall is, how much height you add and whether any repairs are needed first. We give you a timeline with your estimate so you know what to expect.
Every wall is different, so we price each job after seeing it. The main things that change the cost:
How many feet of wall you want raised, and how many courses of block you add.
Whether the wall needs steel tied in or a repair first.
The block style and finish you choose.
How easy it is to reach the wall (side yard, alley, pool area).
Permits, if your city requires one.

Many walls in the Phoenix area sit on the property line and belong to both neighbors. Talk to your neighbor before you raise a shared wall; many neighbors are happy to split the work when both get more privacy. If you live in an HOA, check its rules on wall height, block style and color. Cities also set height limits and permit rules, which differ from city to city. We go over all of this with you during the estimate so you know what is needed before work starts.

You do not have to raise the whole wall. Many homeowners raise only the section near a pool, a patio or a neighbor's window. We step the height down at the ends so the wall still looks clean, and we match the new block and cap to the rest of your wall.
Raising a block wall is also a good time to refresh a worn or cracked stucco finish. We offer smooth, textured, and patterned stucco coatings matched to your home's color, plus extra-strength acrylic stucco built to flex in Arizona heat without cracking and resist water intrusion during monsoon season. Ask about adding stucco to your free estimate.
It depends on your footing, the steel in your wall, and your city and HOA height limits. We check all three during the free estimate and tell you how much height your wall can safely take.
Often, yes. Permit rules depend on your city and on the total height of the wall. We check the rules for your address before any work starts.
We match the size and texture as closely as possible. Weathered block can look a shade different at first; paint or stucco over the whole wall gives one even color.
Yes, with your neighbor's agreement. Many neighbors split the work because both sides get more privacy.
Small cracks can usually be repaired first. A wall that leans or has large cracks should be rebuilt instead of raised. We tell you which one your wall needs.
